What are merge tags?

Merge tags are pieces of code that allow you to personalize your campaigns – either in emails or online. For example, you can use merge tags to to address someone by name, like “Hello, Tom!”

Merge tags can also be used to insert dynamic content like shopping cart items, links, and more! Charley has a set list of merge tags to use, but you can also create more by passing custom variable data via an visitor/subscriber import or on your website.

Top Selling & Product Recommendation Grids

Coupon Lists

The drop-down option for the Coupon Lists Mere Tags in your WYSIWYG Editor will be blank until you add your first coupon list to Coupon Manager (found in the Libraries section of the left navigation). Once you’ve added a list, you’ll see the drop-down is populated with the names of your coupon list.

Inserting Merge Tags

Inserting merge tags is simple. In whichever editor you use, the WYSIWYG Editor or the HTML Code, you can simply paste in the merge tag you’d like to use.

For example:

“Hello, Tom!” with the merge tag would look like “Hello, {{VISITOR:FNAME}}!”

In the WYSIWYG Editor, you’ll notice that there are drop downs for the merge tags.

Merge tags are not limited to the body of a campaign. Try using them in the subject line too!
